Our goal is to listen to our customers and offer suggestions on ways to enhance their homes. Today we would like to showcase a spectacular outdoor living space we designed in Pomona, CA. It is sure to be the talk of the neighborhood!

Once our experienced team arrived at this project, we were ready to create a design that would add the perfect curb appeal and increase the home’s value. Our goal was to make this home the one on the block that everyone stopped and wondered how they too could get their home to look just as beautiful. Here’s a suggestion; let our dependable team design your yard; we do free estimates.

The project consisted of adding a decomposed granite base to a pergola; this immediately gave the customer a spectacular area for everyone to gather. Then we installed paver walkways, which complemented the home’s overall appearance, followed by a sprinkler system; and a new lush green lawn for the final show stopper. All done within the customer’s budget and at a competitive price.

We thought we would share some of the finer points of this exciting project with you and show how you, too, can have the yard of your dreams!

Did you know that decomposed granite is actually the result of breaking granite stone and not granite decomposing naturally? It is one of the most natural aggregated mixes. It comes in different colors, so we used pyrite gold, which is very rare but worth looking into, as the color is spectacular, especially when the California sun shines down on those tiny particles of granite. Because decomposed granite has a naturally coarse texture, it’s more durable than a dirt base, making this an excellent foundation for high traffic areas.

1. Every project starts with preparing the area, and in this case, we began by removing any weeds or debris near the pergola. Then we added a railroad tie border around the pergola to act as a barrier against any wind or rain; this will help to alleviate any erosion of the decomposed granite. It also gave the pergola a rustic appearance. living space makeover

2. When an area requires grading, it is essential that it be level and not too high or low. An accurate way to accomplish proper grading is to use a string to level the area. The string helps to identify uneven areas and guides you in making sure you don’t have problems farther down the road once you have started the installation. This project did need a slight slope for proper drainage, so we used a crowning process that raised the center of the grade, so it’s slightly rounded and allowed water to run off on each side. proper grading

3. We needed a depth of four inches so that we had enough room to add the decomposed granite. We filled two inches of decomposed granite to start the process and then thoroughly watered the area and set it for eight hours. After the eight hours, we needed to use a heavy roller (vibratory plate compactor) to compact the granite down. Once completed, we repeated the same process over again.

4. We then applied a sealer that binds the granite and creates a concrete base for the surface. The final step, which is our favorite, was to step back and enjoy a job well done.

Something to remember when installing pavers; you want them to be slightly above the surrounding ground at every point. It is also essential to have a strong base material, so once it’s compacted, it still properly drains; that’s why it’s best to use crushed stone.

Then we added a layer of sand which is what holds the pavers together. Always make sure when installing pavers to check that you maintained the slope in each row. Once the pavers are in place and you have swept the sand into the joints, you need to add a sealant. This will help to prevent weeds from growing in between the pavers.

We all know how vital an irrigation system is to the health of your yard but did you also know it’s a great way to increase your property value and conserve water. When you add a sprinkler system, something to consider is do you want a sprinkler system that will cover a larger area or maybe a drip system that goes directly to the root of the plants. Keep in mind that using native plants and trees will help conserve water and keep your yard looking healthy.

Always be careful when grading an area that you know what is beneath the surface. The last problem you want is to damage a gas, electric or water line. Always be safe than sorry and call your local utilities to mark the areas.

Nothing accents a yard more than looking at a healthy green lawn. Of course, proper installation is the key; and knowing that the joints need to be tightly matching and there shouldn’t be any overlapping is why a professional lawn maintenance service is essential when trying to get the best results. Our reliable team is ready to get the job done efficiently, from the first rollout of sod to the last cut around the landscaping.
